National Women's Champion Club Competition for 2023

Women’s Champion Club Competition

For many years. England Golf have run an English Champion Club competition for male golfers. Each county submits a club team of three players who have qualified through their respective county’s qualifying competition. The final is played over 36 holes of stroke play with all three scores counting towards the winning score. The club with the lowest (gross) score is declared the English Champion Club of the Year and goes on to represent England in the European Final, assisted by a grant from England Golf.

Following feedback from the women’s county associations, the same event will be run for women in 2023. The inaugural running of the tournament shall take place next year (2023) as follows:

English Women’s Champion Club Tournament
Date: 2-3 September 2023

Venue: St Ives (Hunts) Golf Club

Draft terms of the competition are here. The key points are

  • there is no player handicap limit. Whilst there is no limit the event is a scratch competition and players should be of the appropriate ability level.
  • there is no entry fee to enter the Final.
  • a qualifying competition can be in any format determined by the County Association.
  • where a County Association does not run a qualifying competition, a County may nominate a Club to represent them in the Final.
  • the date of the Final is set to allow the winning team to make preparations ahead of the European Final in October.
  • England Golf will pay a grant towards the cost associated with the winning team representing England in the European Ladies Club Trophy, 5-7 October. Venue TBC.

For 2023, it has been agreed that the club invited to send a team from Surrey will be the winners of the Hicks Trophy in 2022, and should they not wish to accept, the runners-up. SLCGA will pay grant of £800 to assist with travel, accommodation and food costs for the three players and captain.
