Belinda Pope retained her title as the Surrey Senior Ladies' Champion with a magnificent gross score of 75 on a tricky day at Hindhead on Thursday, 1st June. A full field started in grey and chilly conditions, with many players regretting their choice of summer clothing given the unexpectedly cool temperature! Thankfully, the sun did decide to make an appearance mid-morning. The course at Hindhead was in magnificent condition, with the greens running fast and true. Belinda played beautifully to retain her scratch title and take the Handicap Trophy as well, winning it on countback from Pam Mace, with a nett 71. Second place in the scratch competition went to Maggie Whittet of Hankley Common with a gross 77.
The 'Dot' Champions, so called due to the age indicating dots on all scorecards (!), were Susan Glover of Hankley Common (60+ Scratch Champion), Christine Staff of Hindhead (70+ Scratch Champion) and Judy Houlden of Tandridge (60+ Handicap Champion). Other prize winners included Gill Williams of Betchworth Park, Pam Mace (Sutton Green) and Maria Diegan (Surbiton).
