COUNTY TEAM AT COUNTY FINALS - DELAMERE FOREST 16 - 21 SEPTEMBER 2019

The team selected to play at Delamere Forest, Cheshire was Jessica Adams, Rafiah Banday, Tana Churchill, Charlotte Griffith, Olivia Horsford, Ellie Lace, Canice Screene, Gabby Shacklady, Nicola Taylor, Lottie Woad

Day 1 v. Lincolnshire.  Despite a 3-0 win in the foursomes we could not quite get over the line in the afternoon and lost 5-4

Day 2 v. Gloucs, the eventual winners.  At one stage in the afternoon it looked as if we might have our own Solheim Cup moment but in the end they proved too strong over the difficult closing holes and we lost 6.5 - 2.5

Day 3 v. Yorkshire.  We played well against Yorkshire and managed to hang on for a well deserved win 5.4

Day 4 v. Bucks.  This match ended in a draw 4.5 - 4.5 which was very hard to bear.  Bucks holed a bunker shot on the 17th and then put their shot to the 18th almost dead in one match.  In the final match Bucks again put their shot to the 18th almost dead after being in the trees followed by a chip into the thick rough.  Not what we were hoping for!

Day 5 v. Norfolk.  Another win 5.5 - 3.5.  We won the foursomes 2.5-0.5 which was a good start and then managed to half the singles 3-3 to secure the game.

So we finished 3rd overall, the same as last year but it could so easily have been 2nd.  There is always next year!

A fantastic week which culminated in Surrey retaining the Top Dog Trophy for the South Region County Match Week.  We beat all the other counties so by the time we had our rest day on Friday we had already won!  All the members of the team made a great contribution and played their part in the win.
