Surrey girls to the fore in weather-hit English Girls Championship

The English girls' Championships at Sandy Lodge was severely hit by the weather.  The first day was entirely lost and the competition rescheduled to 54 holes.  But then the last round was also hit by thunderstorms and torrential rain, meaning that the competitors were unable to complete the third round.  This was bad news for Lottie Woad from Farnham who, with a shower of birdies over the front nine, had overtaken the second round leader to lead the Championship by two shots.  However, it was good news for Abbi Rowlands, Foxhills, who was tied for the lead at the end of the second round.  Unfortunately, she lost the playoff hole to come second.  Congratulations to all 15 Surrey girls who made it into the Championship and to the 7 who made the cut for the final day's play.  Full report on the England golf website here.
