The first day of finals was held at Tyrrells Wood. There had been heavy overnight rain so preferred lies were in operation. The matches started in the dry but there were spells of quite heavy rain. However all the players were undeterred and there were some very good games.
The Birley Trophy was contested between Ava Bates (Wentworth) and Evie Kircher (Windlesham). Ava established an early lead and was still 2 up after 16 holes. Evie made a spirited comeback but missed a putt on the 18th to take the match down the 19th.
The Inter-Club Handicap Foursomes was contested between Chipstead and Pyrford. This was a very close match but Chipstead managed to clinch victory.
The Wallis Trophy is the new Team Bronze Handicap knockout competition. The finalists were West Hill and Coombe Hill. Rosemary Wallis (Surrey President 2015-18) had presented a lovely silver biscuit barrel as the Trophy so it was perhaps fitting that West Hill should be the first holders of the Trophy. They beat Coombe Hill 4-1.
