The finals of the Rothschild Trophy, Monk Plate and Winter Scratch League were contested at Guildford on Saturday 13 April. It was a chilly day and although the skies were blue everybody was well wrapped up - just as well as there was a short hail storm at one point which took everybody by surprise!
The Rothschild Trophy finalists were Ella Hammond-Baveystock (Wentworth) and Melanie Newport (Worplesdon). This was a very close match with never more than a hole in it. Ella was 1 up going down the last but managed a half in 4 to clinch the match 1up.
The Monk Plate finalists were Clara Chiang (Hampton Court Palace) and Shelagh Kirkland (Walton Heath). Shelagh went into an early lead but Clara played some steady golf to win back 2 holes. However Shelagh played a good shot to the short 16th and her 3 was good enough for victory 3&2.
The Winter Scratch League finalists were defending champion Chris Jenkins (Royal Mid-Surrey) and Maureen Milner (Effingham). This was another close match which went to the 18th green with Chris retaining her title 1 up.
Our thanks to Guildford who hosted the matches. Martha Brass the vice-captain and Diane Turner a committee member were kind enough to welcome all the competitors. A very nice touch was the complimentary tea, coffee and hot soup which were very welcome at the 10th tee!
